Old Town Central.. the latest blurb from the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Cat Street | Ladder Street | Upper Lascar Row - just off Hollywood Road and worth a visit, the Hilderbrands do the Peak, the Aston Martin on Magazine Gap Road, Mooncakes at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the Aqua Luna II in Hong Kong Harbour and the Mid Levels Escalator.

Cat Street / Ladder Street / Upper Lascar Row
Kind of iconic in an Old Town Central sort of way... Hollywood Road is sometimes called Antique Street because the HK Tourist Board and the HK Government thought it would be a jolly good idea if all the Antique Shops in Hong Kong were in one place.... not good, at the very least these shops are intimidating as they are full of overpriced antiques which may or may not be genuine + there is never anyone in the shops....
For many years now, just off Hollywood Road (opposite the Man Mo Temple) there has been a much better way of buying cheap "antiques" the street is called Cat Street / Ladder Street / Upper Lascar Row and many of the lesser known antique shops put stalls out with "stuff or tat" so you can have a good rummage around and barter with the owners, much more fun than a stuffy overpriced antique shop.
...oh and buy one of the Japanese waving cats.. it is supposed to bring you good luck.

Old Town Central
It boggles my mind that the over salaried employees of the Hong Kong Tourism Board can attend 20 committee meetings and come up with the natty slogan "Old Town Central" in an attempt to lure more tourists to Hong Kong.
Central District on Hong Kong Island can be called a lot of things but Old Town Central is not something that springs to mind particularly as most of the area is being gentrified as we speak.
Slogans are great but they need to match reality and those muppets that work for the Hong Kong Tourism Board might want to walk the streets once in a while, they might learn something.
Private Hong Kong Tours and the real Hong Kong
The Hilderbrands at my spot at the Peak.
We got a nice break in the weather, it was hot, humid and plenty of thundery showers but it cleared up nicely in the early afternoon and hey presto - one magnificent view.
Thanks guys for booking one of my private tours, it was a real pleasure.

The Aston Martin DB 11

I got this image on Magazine Gap Road near to the Peak and as you can see I was very close to the car... SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mid Autumn Festival in Hong Kong - mooncakes
I have hated traditional mooncakes my entire life much like the rest of the population in Hong Kong... every year we get between 6 to 12 tin boxes of 4 large mooncakes and every year they end up on the landfill, according to the Government here we throw out between 1,500,000 to 5,000,000 of them a year.
I am all for tradition (I am a Brit after all) but traditional mooncakes wth the traditional sweet paste filling with the salted egg yoke surprise should be banned... immediately.
I think the Mandarin Hotel does a wonderful job of producing cream and chocolate filled mooncakes which fulfill the taste expectation (if not the spirit) of the whole mooncake experience.

The Night Time View from the Peak
I simply cannot think of a better view anywhere in the World than from my spot at the Peak, I mean isn't it just brilliant? it takes your breath away.
If time permits and the weather is good I will take you to my spot on one of my premium private tours, just bring a decent camera and a tripod - it really is a magical experience and one not to be missed.

Bugs at the Peak
So the odds of seeing a bug like the one in the image at the Peak are remote but you never know... actually this is the first time I have seen this bug in 45 years and it is supposedly a very common bug in Hong Kong. I guess I am just lucky.

The Classic Bentley with a very expensive licence plate
HK 7 - well that will have cost the owner a small fortune, a very lucky number plate indeed, actually this is one of my favourite car images as it is a great combination of a classic Bentley with a lovely and somewhat rare colour scheme and a very expensive number plate..... simply awesome.

The Aqua Luna II
I always feel blessed when I am in the right spot at the right time and boy did I catch the light on September 25th 2017 to get my personal favourite shot of the Aqua Luna II in Hong Kong Harbour..
I rather like this replica Chinese Fishing Junk and it really is an awesome sight trawling around Hong Kong Harbour day or night...... I love the sails, even more so than the iconic red sails on the original Aqua Luna.
Hong Kong Private Tours
The Mid Levels Escalator
Not much to add as the Escalator has featured heavily in previous blog posts.
Suffice to say that you should make an effort to ride it when in Hong Kong .. it is a great way to see "Old Town Central" (see above) and a fabulous place for a spot of people watching particularly at the entrance / exit as shown in the image.
It is absolutely worth half an hour of your time.
Oh my golly gosh, the simply amazing Pagani Hypercar, hand made in Italy
